Yi-An Xu, Conductor

Born in Shanghai, Yi-An Xu is a faculty member of the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music, Tel Aviv University. He teaches Orchestra Conducting, coachs the Vocal Department, and is a pianist/conductor of the School's opera productions. Since 2019, he is the Principal Conductor of the School’s Symphony Orchestra, approved by Maestros Zubin Mehta and Lahav Shani. He conducted leading Israeli orchestras such as the Israel Philharmonic, Israel Symphony Rishon Lezion, Haifa Symphony, Jerusalem Symphony and Israel Chamber Orchestra. Mr. Xu served as resident conductor at the Shanghai Youth Symphony Orchestra, assistant conductor at the Shanghai Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra and at the Shanghai Opera House, Coach at the Chiari International Opera Master Class, Italy and co-repetiteur at the Elder School of Music, University of Adelaide, Australia. Xu was a finalist in the 2004 Cadaques International conducting competition, Spain and also received the Dan Ben-Bassat Memorial Prize.
