Hans Ulrich Schmid, born in Hamburg 1926, first studied the piano in Munich, Zurich and Stuttgart. After his graduation, he worked at Hamburg’s piano factory Steinway & Sons.
As a pioneer in the international music business, he founded Konzertdirektion Schmid in 1959. Very soon, he created a global network, supported once unknown artists like Sir Neville Marriner and Yo-Yo Ma and put them on the world’s musical map. His vision and his intuition for talent and quality shaped the classical music world. At the same time, he was always considered as a fair and honest business partner and an entrepreneur who was enthusiastic about the interests and the creative process of musicians.
