Noam Sheriff

The Arthur Rubinstein International Music Association wishes to express its condolences to the family of musician, conductor and Israel Prize recipient Noam Sheriff, who has passed away at the age of 83.
Noam was a member of the Rubinstein Competition board of directors for many years. He left his mark in every area of music in Israel: as artistic director of three Israeli orchestras, musical director of higher music institutions – the most recent as head of the conducting department at the Ono Academic College music school – and of course as a prolific composer whose works have been performed all over the world. Some of his compositions brought international acclaim, including “Sephardic Passion”, “Genesis” and “Mechaye Hamethim” (“Revival of the Dead”).
Noam composed large-scale music, solo and chamber music. For the 1992 Rubinstein Competition he wrote the piece “For Ella” (dedicated to his wife).
The Rubinstein Association extends its heartfelt condolences to his wife, composer Ella Milch Sheriff and his children.

May he rest in peace.
